Assessment Criteria
Grade 5 is a significant progression — all major strokes extend to 25m, surface diving and somersaults are introduced, and survival swimming in clothing becomes a core requirement.

NO buoyancy aids permitted for any criteria.

Clothing (t-shirt) required for criterion 2.
- 1.Take part in rescue with buoyant aid or rope.
- 2.Step or straddle entry, tread water 30 seconds, 360° turn in t-shirt, remove t-shirt, climb out.
- 3.Push and glide into front crawl or breaststroke 25m correct finish (first choice).
- 4.Push and glide into backstroke 25m correct finish.
- 5.Push and glide into front crawl or breaststroke 20m correct finish (second choice).
- 6.Push and glide, attempt butterfly arms 10m.
- 7.Head-first and feet-first surface dive.
- 8.Scull head first 15m and feet first 15m.
- 9.Forward or backward somersault.
- 10.Swim 25m lifesaving backstroke or sidestroke.
