Grade 4

15m stroke distances, handstand, lifesaving backstroke and rescue awareness. No buoyancy aids.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 4 develops all three stroke distances to 15m, introduces the handstand and adds lifesaving-themed swimming elements including lifesaving backstroke.

NO buoyancy aids permitted for any criteria.

  1. 1.Take part in rescue with reaching aid.
  2. 2.Slide-in entry, tread water 20 seconds, swim to poolside, climb out.
  3. 3.Push and glide into front crawl or breaststroke 15m (first choice).
  4. 4.Push and glide into backstroke 15m.
  5. 5.Push and glide into front crawl or breaststroke 10m (second choice).
  6. 6.Dolphin leg action on front 10m.
  7. 7.Attempt handstand — both hands on pool floor.
  8. 8.Scull head first 5m and feet first 5m.
  9. 9.Push and glide to pool floor, retrieve object, tuck and resurface.
  10. 10.Swim 10m lifesaving backstroke or sidestroke.
