Stage Overview
Stage 6 introduces real-world water safety skills โ exercise preparation, swimming in clothing, rhythmical stroke breathing, surface diving and a shout-and-signal rescue action.
โ No flotation equipment. Clothing required for criterion 4.
Assessment Criteria
- Give two examples of how to prepare for exercise and understand why this is important.
- Sink, push off on the side from the wall, glide, kick, rotate into backstroke.
- Sink, push off on the side from the wall, glide, kick, rotate into front crawl.
- Swim 10 metres wearing clothes.
- Front crawl with at least 6 rhythmical breaths.
- Breaststroke with at least 6 rhythmical breaths.
- Butterfly with at least 3 rhythmical breaths.
- Backstroke with at least 6 regular breaths.
- Push and glide, swim 25 metres (choice of stroke, Swim England standard).
- Shout and signal rescue.
- Surface dive.
