Stage Overview

Stage 6 introduces real-world water safety skills โ€” exercise preparation, swimming in clothing, rhythmical stroke breathing, surface diving and a shout-and-signal rescue action.

โœ— No flotation equipment. Clothing required for criterion 4.

Assessment Criteria

  1. Give two examples of how to prepare for exercise and understand why this is important.
  2. Sink, push off on the side from the wall, glide, kick, rotate into backstroke.
  3. Sink, push off on the side from the wall, glide, kick, rotate into front crawl.
  4. Swim 10 metres wearing clothes.
  5. Front crawl with at least 6 rhythmical breaths.
  6. Breaststroke with at least 6 rhythmical breaths.
  7. Butterfly with at least 3 rhythmical breaths.
  8. Backstroke with at least 6 regular breaths.
  9. Push and glide, swim 25 metres (choice of stroke, Swim England standard).
  10. Shout and signal rescue.
  11. Surface dive.
