Stage Overview

Stage 5 completes all four stroke arm pulls and introduces deep water skills including treading water, shaped jumps, handstands and somersaults.

โœ— No flotation equipment. Deep water required for jumping and handstand criteria.

Assessment Criteria

  1. Flat stationary scull on the back.
  2. Feet first sculling action for 5 metres on the back.
  3. Sculling sequence with a partner for 30โ€“45 seconds, including rotation.
  4. Tread water for 30 seconds.
  5. Three different shaped jumps into deep water.
  6. Push and glide, swim 10 metres backstroke (Swim England standard).
  7. Push and glide, swim 10 metres front crawl (Swim England standard).
  8. Push and glide, swim 10 metres breaststroke (Swim England standard).
  9. Push and glide, swim 10 metres butterfly (Swim England standard).
  10. Handstand โ€” hold for a minimum of 3 seconds.
  11. Forward somersault.
  12. Demonstrate the action for getting help.
